A Sunday Times bestseller

How do you solve a murder... when everyone has the same motive? From global bestselling Anthony Horowitz, a brilliantly entertaining mystery in the Hawthorne and Horowitz series.

Richmond Upon Thames is one of the most desirable areas to live in London. And Riverview Close - a quiet, gated community – seems to offer its inhabitants the perfect life.

At least it does until Giles Kenworthy moves in with his wife and noisy children, his four gas-guzzling cars, his loud parties and his plans for a new swimming pool in his garden.

His neighbours all have a reason to hate him and are soon up in arms.

When Kenworthy is shot dead with a crossbow bolt through his neck, all of them come under suspicion and his murder opens the door to lies, deception and further death.

The police are baffled. Reluctantly, they call in former Detective Daniel Hawthorne. But even he is faced with a seemingly impossible puzzle.

I loved this book, I’ve enjoyed the whole series so far but this is the best one yet! I love the parallel stories taking place and the slightly darker edge to Hawthorne. I’m just sorry I’ve listened to it so early and have to wait for the next installment! Keep them coming Anthony!

Best so far!

Compelling story, easy listen, well read. This one is the best so far. Many modern crime fiction books have too much misery for me - not the case with Hawthorne stories. Once I start I can’t put down.

Loved all the Hawthorne books so far

Another classic Hawthorne & Horowitz saga, but this one definitely takes the cake as the best book in the series thus far. It's safe to say, I'm already looking forward to the next one! Brilliant 👏

I am really enjoying this series of books. I did miss hawthorn a little in this one if I'm being honest as he featured a little less, but I still loved it. I love the unusual narrative of this series. looking forward to more.

Wonderful story beautifully written. As someone who lives in Richmond I loved all the references to the shops the river and places around the town.
This is my first read of the series of books so I am going back to book one to enjoy . I very much recommend the book and I love the fact that it does not need to resort to any bad language or unnecessary violence to deliver the mystery.

Wonderfully crafted and beautifully read

This has been my favourite of the Hawthorne books, hopefully they will keep improving! Very nicely narrated as usual by Rory Kinnear. I enjoyed the two timelines running alongside each other, the characters were easy to tell apart but believable, not caricatures.

The end was slightly disappointing for those who like things wrapped up neatly, as it wasn’t proven, just surmised

Best yet - but slight spoiler
