About this listen

The first time Bee Bannister met Tom Wright, he couldn’t stand him.

Everything about the man aggravated him—his perfect hair and body, his confident arrogance, and the way he looked straight through Bee.

Which is why it’s such an unpleasant shock to find that he’ll be sharing space with him while on a Christmas holiday with friends in Scotland.

However, as the days fly by and snowy Edinburgh begins to work its magic on him, Bee discovers that sometimes first impressions can be very misleading. Tom is kind and funny, and somehow, rather than looking through Bee, he actually sees and likes all of him.

The two men grow closer, but will Bee follow his heart or his head when the holiday ends? And can relationships that start so badly ever lead to love?

From best-selling author Lily Morton comes a festive romantic comedy about enemies to lovers and the magic of Christmas.

This is the first book in the Wright Brothers series.

Story: Bee and Thomas are an amazing beautiful disaster and in typical Lily Morton fashion she makes it all work in just the right way!
The snark and feels that I've gotten used to in this author's stories are accounted for and they never fail to make reading the story pure pleasure!
If you need some lighthearted fun and all the feels, grab this one!
Narration: Joel Leslie nailed is, as usual!

All the fun you can handle

Warning for anyone averse to bad language, side character Freddie insists on making liberal, intentional use of the F word whenever Steven is around, because he knows Steven hates it and he despises Steven. Just a forewarning. If you can get past that, though, this is a sweet story, and hilarious, too, It's really worth the listen.

I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet, kind of enemies-to-lovers, overcoming-first-impressions, forced proximity love story. It's classic Lily Morton, with quirky characters, snarky banter, mistaken assumptions, helpful (?) friends, and family, and a slow, sweet romance. I loved Bee and Tom, and enjoyed watching them learn more about each other after their initial inauspicious encounters. This is a sweet, low-angst listen, perfect for when you want a fun story, with plenty of humor and some (verbal) bite. The end part with Tom's family was particularly rich, especially the dinner with the pudding, I was laughing so hard I was gasping for breath. The very end felt like a loss though. I wanted to see the big moment, and I felt a little cheated.

The narration by Joel Leslie was phenomenal as always. He gets the emotions, the snark, the jokes, everything just right. I loved it.

Sweet, beautiful, unconventional love story

Another great book from Lily Morton, this one is set in Edinburgh during a Christmas trip for a group of friends. The two main characters are so very likeable, both with their own quirks and eccentricities. Ultimately this is a story that will keep you listening from start to finish. It is both funny and romantic, with the usual spice, and will leave you smiling from ear to ear. Joel Leslie was as fabulous as ever.

Well worth a credit!

An excellent narrator who really fits the banter and amusing characters.
Story - 4 stars. The last books I read by this author were somewhat underwhelming for me personally. I was glad I tried again though. I really enjoyed Tom and especially Bee, who was adorably quirky and awkward. The setting in Edinburgh was lovely.

Bee initially dislikes Tom and it takes some time before he changes his mind.
Tom is very steady and patient.
He's perfectly fine waiting for Bee to realize what he actually wants and to not be afraid of commitment.
I loved the snarky banter between them and their friend group.
The beautiful descriptions of Edinburgh made me nostalgic for somewhere I've never been and desperate to visit.
Joel Leslie did an amazing job narrating and bringing these characters to life.

A cute holiday romance with a bad first impression and forced proximity.
Tom and Bee are swoon-worthy with Tom falling for Bee very quickly and going out of his way to play tour guide just to make Bee happy.
As with all Lily’s books, this is fun and filled with snark and witty exchanges. A pleasure to listen to.

I so loved Bee in this as I've done the same thing he did with Tom, prejudged someone based on the fact they were much more outgoing than I was and seemed to have it all together. I also adore reading Christmas stories all year round, so spending Christmas in Edinburgh with all the characters was a delight. Bee and Tom slowly getting to know each other and finding out they are perfect friends and then so much more was lovely. Joel Leslie was perfect as the performer here. He captured all the deep emotions while also keeping the lightness and Christmassy feeling of the story.

A wonderful Christmas romance

This book has really highlighted for me that I’m becoming more of a mood reader. I should have loved this book, but I only just liked it. I assume this is because I’ve been on an ULTRA low stress line up of mainly omegaverse books 🤣. The last half did pick up for me but, mood.

Really this book was good and sweet, the second seems to carry in directly from this one which I don’t hate.

The narration was alright, but having one narrator voice both POVs is so hard to keep characters straight, especially when I tend to do things while ear reading. Both MCs are just English…I literally had to wait for names or life details to be mentioned to know which POV I was hearing. This is obviously only an Audio issue.

A super cute, low angst, winter/holiday vibes romance!

This book came along at the perfect time (Summer lol) for a wintery romance narrated by Joel Leslie. But really, I have been so busy lately that a low angst, lovely book from Lily Morton was exactly what I needed to soothe my brain after a few busy days.

Bee and Tom meet during a Christmas-time trip to Edinburgh, where a mix of coworkers & friends are going on a group trip. Things between them are a bit icy at first, until Tom does a perfect little bit of grovelling and they become friends with instant chemistry. Alas, the forced proximity of a holiday rental apartment helps move things along, and overall,l this story was just a very fun time!

Things do move pretty quickly as the whole story happens during a single week, but it did make sense within the context of the story.

I enjoyed this one so much, I went back and listened to book 2, which is actually kind of book 1, as this is almost a "prequel" written a few years after Merry Measure was published.

A lovely, low angst winter romance

When I read this book with my eyes I said the only thing that could make me love it more would be to listen to Joel Leslie perform the audiobook. I’m so happy Lily Morton had Joel perform this story.

I loved it!
