About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Read by award-winning narrator Jeff Harding.

**NOW A MAJOR PRIME TV SERIES STARRING ALAN RITCHSON**

From Hope to Despair.

Between two small towns in Colorado, nothing but twelve miles of empty road.

All Jack Reacher wants is a cup of coffee. What he gets are four redneck deputies, a vagrancy charge and a trip back to the line.

But Reacher is a big man, and he's in shape.

No job, no address, no baggage. Nothing, except bloody-minded curiosity.

What are the secrets the locals seem so determined to hide?

Although the Jack Reacher novels can be listened to in any order, Nothing To Lose is 12th in the series.

'A high-testosterone adventure . . . a page turner. Thrilling.' Observer

‘Jeff Harding’s [...] narration captures Reacher’s character perfectly [...] you have to savour every minute.’ The Sunday Times

I’m reading/listening to all the Jack Reachers in order of release. The series is very enjoyable. I would say though this story and the eventual mystery uncovered by Reacher was far more plodding than in previous outings. There was rarely a sense of real risk or danger that’d been present in his previous outings and therefore propelled the story forward. That said the fight sequences were excellent, some of the best written in the series. The voice acting was on the whole very good, the female voices could probably use a female actor!

Great action, weaker mystery

Not the best Jack Reacher book but definitely worth a go. onto the next book...

Another great book

Standard Reacher story, just right. Easy to get into, lots to keep you guessing, great characters, great stuff.

Nothing to lose 👍

Typical Reacher. But, big but. Athough not a brilliant story, it's well written and beautifully narrated.

Not particularly gooc

Its a decent story but padded out with way to much superfluous description that just isn’t necessary. If your following the Reacher series in sequence then I’d say go for it it’s worth persevering. If you aren’t particularly bothered about all that then maybes skip this one.

To much description

Even years after it was written this scenario is realistic and plausible but dealt with in Reachers inimitable way. Can’t wait for the next in the series

Frighteningly plausible

A slower Reacher than normal but builds to a fantastic finish, well worth sticking with it in my view

Slower than normal but builds well

believable characters as you would expect from a Lee Child book.
And the story was exceptional read by Jeff.

compulsive listening

Would you listen to Nothing to Lose again? Why?

Wouldn't listen again as unlike the other Reacher novels it has poor character development , little emotional connection and fanciful story.

What will your next listen be?

Simon Kernick - Stay alive

Have you listened to any of Jeff Harding’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Good performance by jeff harding but struggles to work with poor material.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No part of the book really engaged me emotionally and the whole experience left an insubstantial feeling.

Any additional comments?

After listening to all the reacher novels so far this has made me want to take a long wait before trying book 13.

Bit pedestrian and fanciful tale

I’m ploughing through all the reacher books at a rate of knots and have enjoyed them all, but this one was a little long winded for me. It felt like the story had been unnecessarily beefed up with overly descriptive scenes ( what the rear of a ‘U Haul’ truck looks like for instance ), I wouldn’t go back to it. Jeff Harding was the master as per usual. Roll on the next one!!

Not the best
