About this listen

Terry McCaleb's enforced quiet lifestyle on the island of Catalina is a far cry from the hectic excitement of his former role as an FBI profiler. However when small-time criminal Edward Gunn is found dead, McCaleb becomes embroiled in a disturbing and complex case leading him to cross the path of Harry Bosch.

This infamous detective has always teetered on the brink of darkness in order to get inside the head of the killer. Is it possible he has stepped across that finely drawn line and embraced darkness?

Slightly different than the normal Bosch book as he is shared with McCaleb too. The narrator could have been better doing Bosch, but then Dick Hill is a tough act to follow. I thoroughly recommend this title

Another great Bosch/McCaleb thriller

Loads of twists and turns but Bosch gets there everytime but not necessarily the way You would expect Him to...Or would You. !

Great Storylines

it is worth noting if you weren't aware, we have met McCaleb in Blood Work already. I note some of the negative reviews are perhaps based on this book being the first time the reader has met Terry, so maybe check Blood Work out first.

For a large portion of this book, the two (Bosch and McCaleb) go about their cases in their own ways, with them seemingly being two separate cases. There are large portions of the book based on Bosch's court case, but I found it very well written and kept a good pace.

As we progress there are some great reveals and the two cases are tied together and Bosch and McCaleb end up with a similar goal, with very different thoughts on how that goal should be achieved!

For me, it's a great story, with fascinating characters, told very well and at a good pace. My only negative would perhaps be the narrator's Bosch voice!

Two characters join for one great story

A really clever, well put together story - thoroughly enjoyable with excellent characters interplaying with Bosh

Not what you think!

Not as good as the previous books but still enjoyable!! Bosch sounds like Uncle Fester from the Adams family

Good

Good book but not as good as previous one in the series Angels Flight.
I also preferred the narrator in Angels Flight
I've only just just started reading Harry Bosch books & so far enjoying them.

Good book but not as good as previous on in series

I was conscious of a different narrator and I didn’t enjoy the book as much because of the narrator. The story was not as good as previous books listened too.

Not as good as the usual Bosch books

My seventh Bosch and just as enjoyable as the first.
This book sees a switch in story telling from Bosch’s perspective to a retired FBI profiler who wrongly puts Bosch in the frame. When he’s pushed aside by the investigators, Bosch tells him he’s flat out wrong and puts him on the case to clear him. Another hit.

Just a great read/listen

Love the series. A shame Terry is a bit wet. Otherwise gripping and another great Bosch

Really good.

Michael Connolly writes great crime novels, this is no exception. I found it not to be quite as gripping as those preceding it but enjoyed it all the same.
The narration was good if slightly monotone at times. If you live the Harry Bosch novels you will love this but if you are considering this as a way into the series definitely start at the beginning.

Not as gripping as the preceding books but still great
